5 lovely things – 20th September

5 lovely little things badge by Muddling AlongAnother Friday and time for a 10 minutes away from the rush to sit down with a cup of tea (and a slice of cake if you are lucky) and to look over a few lovely things I’ve found on my journeys around the internet this week

One to read

I think I’m developing a little bit of a girl crush on Caitlin Moran – this posthumous advice for her daughter has just cemented it, especially the bit that ‘nine times out of ten, you probably aren’t having a full-on nervous breakdown – you just need a cup of tea and a biscuit’

One to share

Have a look at these incredible images of real mothers and their real, unairbrushed bodies and then share with everyone you know so we can avoid any more mothers having to put up with surprised comments about how pregnancy and childbirth has changed their body like the Duchess of Cambridge had to endure – we all know babies are lovely but it’s so sad that we don’t embrace that our bodies permenantly change and celebrate those changes. The 4th Trimester Bodies Project is hoping to change that

One to make

It’s getting colder out there and the nights are drawing in – these beautiful handwarmers only take a few hours to make and will give you lovely snuggly warm hands

One to make you think

This is a harrowing read but I felt compelled to share it and to pass on – we all need to think about the impact of technology on our children and the lack of a safe space to do the stupid things teenagers do in an age of over-sharing.  I don’t have the answers but I’m going to be talking about this and trying to work out what we can do and how we can help avoid another child going through this.  The final sentence says it all ‘among her last words were, ‘you have no idea what it’s like to be a girl.’

One to cook

I’ve been on the hunt for quick and easy but tasty recipes to get us out of a bit of a food rut (is it just me who struggles to make the change from summer to winter food each year?) – this is a fast and yummy pad thai receipe, only change I’d suggest is adding a bit of chilli for a bit of a kick to it

And a final one to try – I got sent some Cadbury’s pebbles to try – think they are best described as adult smarties (dairy milk on the inside, crunchy sugary outside) which doesn’t sound like much but gosh are they nice (put it this way, one packet had been eaten by the rest of the family before I’d noticed…)
