Beauty tips for shattered mothers

I will happily admit that I am one of the shallowest people on the planet and that little things, like having nicely painted toe nails make my life feel disproportionally better than they should.

I’m also keen on getting the maximum amount of sleep that the two girls will let me have so my morning routine has been crunched into the absolute minimum of time whilst still letting me look presentable for work.

Here, to hopefully help you, are a few things I’ve found that shortcut the whole beauty thing

Clinique chubby stick

I saw these advertised and went over to have a look.  Previously I’ve used Elizabeth Arden 8 hour lipsticks to give a bit of colour whilst moisturising my lips.  These are similar but seem to be a bit more colour and are lovely and moisturising – and they’re a crayon so easy to swipe on whilst on the go and without a mirror to hand.  They have enough colour to make you look healthier and aren’t gloopy and sticky like a lip gloss.

Small but perfectly formed

Beauty Flash Balm

The original and the best is Clarins Beauty Flash Balm – its like an extra couple of hours sleep in a tube.   I don’t know how it does it but it smoothes out blotches, makes your skin look plumper and brighter.  All of which is a good thing.  You can wear it on its own or under make up.

But it is expensive and Superdrug have an equally good version in their Natural High Radiance Balm  which is a fraction of the cost and still does all the illuminating, softening stuff.

Tinted moisturiser

Two products in one – half the time and half  the effort!

Tinted moisturiser is fab – not as much of a faff to put on as foundation so you can apply it whilst trying to stop small people throw things down the loo with no worries that you’ll end up looking like your toddler put on your make up.

Liz Earle are bringing out a new tinted moisturiser and if you sign up here you could be one of the first to try it.

Can’t live without it – sits in the bathroom next to my toothbrush and gets slicked on first thing.

My current favourite is Max Factor False Lash Effect because one coat seems to do the same as two with any other version.

And two last ones that aren’t essentials but do make life easier

Max Factor Smokey Eyes sticks – two colours, slick on one on the eyelid, swoop around the lashes with the other and tah dah smokey eyes in no time

BaByliss Big Hair is a new discovery – you use it on almost dry hair (so yes it doesn’t substitute for your hairdryer) and it smoothes and sleeks hair making it look like you’ve had a professional blow dry. I’m useless at drying my hair properly with brushes and a hairdryer but this manages to make it look great
