Christmas? Bah humbug!

Bah humbug! You do know in two weeks the whole Christmas thing will be over? All this effort and its over so quickly.

And there is a lot of extra effort – so much that my brain is struggling to keep up with it despite lists upon lists.

In fact I’m so overwhelmed, I even forgot to put out our advent lights at the start of the month, something I’ve managed to remember to do every year previously. But at least they are up now. Perhaps not putting them up was part of my subconscious trying to avoid having to accept that Christmas is coming and very soon.

Its not just the present buying, although that’s the usual challenge. And then the wrapping – all I want to do in the evenings is collapse onto the sofa and then head to bed. I have no inclination to sit and wrap presents.

And then there’s the Christmas cards. Having to update the address book for the moves, the new babies, the new relationships – having to keep track of it all. And the fact that every year Mr insists he’ll help out but in 13 years together he’s never managed to send a single Christmas card. Sigh. And yes, there are people who get huffy if we don’t send them.

The thought of pulling together a Christmas party on Saturday fills me with dread – I haven’t even started to think about what to feed people. The annual Christmas drinks bash on Sunday hangs over me with wardrobe worries and concerns over how we work out the timings to get everyone where they need to be.

I’m not the only one feeling this way.

My Fabulous Best Friend (“FBF”) is usually the first to don a sparkly frock and a santa hat but is mostly mainlining the Grinch this year. Bloggers all over the place seem to be feeling equally unfestive too.

So any great suggestions for getting in the festive spirit?

Or should I just open the mulled wine and see if a bit of festive spirit creates, well, more festive spirit?
