>In defence of the glider chair

>

I’ve read several posts recently (sorry, can’t remember where, if it was you please let me know and I’ll link over to you) more or less saying that the glider chair is the poster child for silly pre-baby spending.

I guess we were lucky that being horribly superstitious and so not buying much before Toddlergirl arrived we didn’t fall into most of the new parent purchasing traps.  In fact we had to ask friends to bring more vests, and nappies, and muslins during the first week.

So we didn’t start off this parenting lark with much in the way of hardware – no baby bath, no special changing table, no glider chair.

But after a couple of weeks of long feeds through the night my back was incredibly sore and someone suggested a nursing chair.  We already had a rocking chair that had been doing sort of ok but wasn’t entirely comfortable.  So I looked online and found myself a glider chair and it arrived in days.

And it was love at first rock.

I admit that its not exactly pretty (especially when you add in the footstool).  But I find it incredibly comfortable.  I can’t count the hours I’ve spent rocking my babies in it but at a cost per hour its not doing badly.

In fact I already have plans to get it recovered once we’re out of the vomit days so I can have it made nice and new again to enjoy.

Currently its sat on our upstairs landing by our big bookcases of books, by the window that looks out over the fields and that catches the sunset.

In fact, I’m sat in it now – its become more than a nursing chair – its a reading chair, a blogging chair, a sit and take some time out chair.

And I love it.

    >Let's hear it for glider chairs! I love mine too – one of the best things we bought for the new baby.

    >I don't blame you.. I've had a old rocking chair and its not the most comfortable of chairs! The glider looks ace and worth every penny it is! Will defiantly invest in one for the next baby!! 🙂

    >here here. I so wish I could have afforded one of these when I had snaffles. Had to make do with an Ikea one instead.

Maybe if we have another I will be able to indulge in one of these givne that I will have saved lots of money on the things we will already have.
