>Grumpy old woman – its not a Personal Identification Number Number

Yes I’m still grumpy.  And old.  And a woman.

In other breaking news I am taking on the horrid phenomena of the Personal Identification Number Number, better known and the PIN Number.

Not content with mentioning it to my friends and family that they either want to ask for a PIN or your Personal Identification Number I have taken things to the next level and am now writing letters to unsuspecting tautologists.

Which has led to some interesting results.

London Underground assure me that PIN Number is part of the popular usage and so is therefore correct.  I can’t say that I’m convinced.

Should something that’s wrong not be corrected, even if a large number of people are using it?

Marks & Spencer have changed their PIN machines to now only request a PIN, are they going to have to change it back?

What do you think – overly pedantic or the removal of a daily irritant?

    >I have similiar issues with currency, as in the plural for Euro is Euro NOT Euros. Drives me nuts and everyone says that, doesn't make it right though! Jen.

    >Hate those bloody numbers full stop, I have so many different numbers in my head when the time comes for my autopsy all I can imagine is a lot of little numbers floating around inside me. Last count I had to remember 14 different combinations grrrr!

    >This one doesn't spark rage for me and M&S still favored retailer for being the only one to say "ten items or fewer".

    >I hate all these numbers and passwords everywhere, can never remember my passwords…they all have different criteria. Grrr

    >Although I know it's wrong I do use it *slaps hand* shame on me.
I don't think it should be accepted just because there's a lot of people using it, that's silly, lots of people commit crime and that's still illegal!

    >ha ha ha, i've never thought about it before but you are so right, it's stupid and we should all stop. Here they call it a pin code. Personal Identification Number Code, nope, still doesn't sound right.
