>Modern proverbs – your perception of rest changes dramatically when you have children

>I’m not quite sure when this happened but my perception of what constitutes a decent lie in has been dramatically changed.

Back in the days before children a decent lie in was until somewhere around lunchtime, with possibly a gentle potter around the house in PJs for a while and a mooch on the sofa reading the papers and drinking tea.
Now I feel that I’ve had a good lie in if I can stay in bed until 8.30 with Babygirl after our early morning feed or even better, if Mr Muddling can take her and I can have an hour or so asleep on my own. Without having to subconsciously listen to the snuffles and snorts and work out which ones need urgent attention. Without having a little person lying next to me either feeding or trying to warm her cold hands down my cleavage. Without having to worry about being woken up by her being sick over me.
And we thought life wouldn’t change that much !
A proverb (from the Latin proverbium), also called a byword or nayword, is a simple and concrete saying popularly known and repeated which expresses a truth, based on common sense or the practical experience of humanity.
