>Modern proverbs – having children completely changes your experience of Christmas

>I’ve always mentally rolled my eyes when people have told me that having children will change Christmas for the better.

To be honest, I didn’t believe them – I’ve seen harassed parents trying to keep some semblance of orderly present unwrapping, calm down children overwrought on a combination of too many E numbers, too many relatives and too much excitement, and to keep track of who has been given what so that thank you cards can be written.
And yes, to a certain extent you do have to deal with all of the above but it is totally mitigated by the experience of having a small person involved in proceedings.
Their excitement at being able to hand presents to people from under the tree, their enjoyment of unwrapping presents (both their own and everyone else’s) and their sheer delight at being in the centre of the circle of their family.
Last year Toddlergirl was really too young to take part in Christmas but this year has more than made up for it – we’ve had a wonderful Christmas and I hope you have too.
Happy Christmas !
A proverb (from the Latin proverbium), also called a byword or nayword, is a simple and concrete saying popularly known and repeated which expresses a truth, based on common sense or the practical experience of humanity.

    >Christmas is magical with smaller children in the house – my two are older now (10 and 13) and some of the magic has gone.

I hope your Christmas was magical.

    >It's so special with children to share it with you – their excitement is infectious. Even my 28 year old still gets a stocking and then his presents around the tree with his little 10 year old sister, and he somehow clambers into our bed too at 7 am!x
